Classroom activity:
OOBLICK SOME AMAZING SLIME

Think About This:

Cornstarch is something that you have around your house most of the time.

When you mix cornstarch with water you get something really weird.

Gather These Things:

1 box of cornstarch Large bowl  Spoon  13 X 9 cake pan

Procedure:

Pour the box of cornstarch into the large bowl.

Add 1 1/4 cups of water to the bowl.

Stir thoroughly. You want to be sure no powder is left.

Grab a handful of Ooblick. Observe.

Grab another handful and try to roll it into a ball, putting lots of pressure on it. What happened to it?

Stop squeezing it. What happens?

Put all the Ooblick back in the pan. Now try to slowly put your finger beneath the surface and try to touch the bottom of the pan. Did you do it?

Now try to jab the surface of the Ooblock very quickly. What happened?

Observations:

What does the Ooblick do when you try to pick it up?

What happens when you put pressure on it?

What happens when you release it?

What Do You Think?

Have fun figuring out other experiments with Ooblick.

The Science Stuff:

The Ooblick forms a very interesting substance. The surface tension is greatly affected by pressure. When you try to pick it up normally it will just run through your fingers, because it is not very viscous. When you apply pressure, it will be less runny because it is much more viscous—but only while applying pressure. Weird ! ! !

MOMS: The Greatest thing about this slime…let it dry and you can vacuum it up!!!
